I’ll be honest, it took me a long time to hop onboard the self-care bandwagon. I was a busy body, a mom now, I simply did not have the time and quite frankly I did not believe the hype. Until I fell into it.
When I became a mom in early 2020 I suddenly saw my “me time” vanish. What went from 3 hour hair appointments and 2 hour walks around the Rose Bowl became 4 inch roots and oh I hadn’t taken more than 2000 steps in a week. I thought this was my new norm. Until my postpartum hair loss started in April. I took matters into my own hands and started a hair care routine to speed up my hair growth, that was my sole mission. What started as a daily hair care routine (serums, scalp massages, masks) became a self-care ritual. I woke up every day looking forward to spending those 5-10 minutes focusing on my hair.
Hair care became skin care…then came the gua sha tool…and my daily walks. And here I am 2 years later with a handful of things I truly enjoy doing for myself. My daily rituals. My self-care.
Self-care and rituals go hand in hand. It’s about taking time out of your day, every day, to do something for yourself. It brings you home to yourself, it centers you and allows you to show up for yourself.
Self-care rituals look different for everyone, it’s important to find something that you truly enjoy and look forward to doing. It can be an intense HIIT workout, taking a bath, editing photos, creating a floral arrangement for your home…anything. And guess what, it doesn’t have to be long. A few minutes a day can truly change your mindset and ultimately improve your happiness.
Below are all my self-care rituals. I don’t do all of them every day. I just kind of pick and choose whatever I am feeling the most.
- Scalp massage with hair serum
- AM/PM skincare routine
- Hot water first thing in the morning
- Gua Sha facial massages
- 10 min leg up the walls
- 10k steps 3 times a week
- Journaling/Planner
- Weekly fresh flowers for the home
I hope this post inspires you to find a self-care ritual that feeds your soul.
