I’m so excited that one room in our house is completely complete (ha)! The Guest Bathroom…a room the size of a small walk-in closet and a room that turned out to be the hardest for us to tackle (will get to that later).
We’re so happy with the overall outcome of this room…sure it’s the size of Harry Potter’s cupboard under the stairs. But, it’s filled with so many luxe materials and finishes that the size doesn’t even matter.
I went into the remodel knowing I wanted this space to be clean, minimal and luxe. With little space I researched ways to make it feel more open and came across the Ludlow Hotel bathroom. That was my inspiration for this room.
The focal point is of course the marble + brass console sink. A vintage inspired design that opens up the space tremendously! After purchasing the console vanity we decided to keep the floors and shower tile marble and white. We we’re thrilled to work with Clé Tile on this! They provided the incredible 4×4 marble tiles in our shower and the white penny rounds for our floor. We went with a medium grey grout to make the tile pop.
Next was finding a mirror. I wanted to keep with the vintage-esq style and found this beautiful tri-mirror in antique gold. I love that it has a 3d quality and fits perfectly into the small space above the sink. With all of that complete we moved in and I began purchasing the decor/accessories to finish off the space.
Now, for the harsh reality of this room and tips for those of you who want a console sink. Because of the exposed piping I HIGHLY encourage you to find a qualified plumber that understands the concept and is great at finishes. Unfortunately, we didn’t choose our plumber and he was definitely not the guy for this job (we discovered this after the work was done). They need to pay close attention to detail (I’m talking placing the plumbing exactly at the MILLIMETER of where it is supposed to be) and be willing to work with materials they are not accustom to. Which leads me to materials once you add a brass finish the cost of things triples. A simple plumbing part underneath the sink that typically costs $60 can become $200-$300 more.
Finally, do your research and purchase everything to complete the job at once! We didn’t purchase the exposed brass pluming kit for underneath the sink in time which is why we have basic chrome pipes. I have a link to the kit you will need below!
To be honest, we actually left the bottom of the sink a bit of a mess and will complete it later on. If you notice we have standard chrome piping and it’s completely off center (I just don’t have the energy to start a small construction project again).
With all the troubles and money spent the guest bathroom is one of my favorite rooms in the house!
