For me, the best summer travels are spontaneous weekend trips. Living in Southern California gives us the opportunity to hop in a car and drive an hour to a new and beautiful destination, like Palm Springs, Big Bear and even down the coast to San Diego. I remember lugging around suitcases fit for two week Euro trips but practice really does make perfect and I have perfected the art in packing just enough to fit in one vacation bag! To my boyfriend’s great pleasure might I add. So, I thought it best to share with you all some tips and tricks I’ve learned along the way.
I first like to pick a color palette! This is probably the single most important thing to remember when beginning to pack. Pick two or three colors you can interchange to get more wear out of your clothes. For these head to toe Sears looks, I decided to go the nautical route: white, navy and camel. I then chose my bathing suit in a solid color. Off the shoulder is the hottest summer trend right now so you know I had to grab this Bongo one from Sears! I also pack one item that I can lightly layer, I say lightly because you don’t want to pack anything that will take too much space! This Metaphor striped knit sweater is awesome to layer over your swimsuit during the day and denim at night.
For bottoms, I take one chic yet comfy skirt that can be worn poolside or to dinner and one pair of denim because you really can’t go anywhere without that! These Canyon River Blues camel denim pants are heaven and would be great to wear on a bike ride down the coast. Lastly, and my biggest issue…shoes! I’ve found that you only need 2 – 3 pairs, flip flops on your feet, boat shoes for long walks and wedges at night. Pretty gold accessories like studs and statement necklaces finish off your vacation in a bag looks!
